Waking to an incredibly gorgeous morning, we left for Fruita at 7:45 to be sure we could get pies at the Gifford House. Even at that early hour the parking lot was full. No photos this time of the historic house or the deer with the big rack that greeted us there. After buying pies we continued south on the Scenic Drive, a highlight of Capitol Reef NP. We walked to the petroglyphs in Capitol Gorge, but our though to walk a bit in Grand Wash was thwarted by huge crowds and a fully packed parking lot. We drove the short distance to the Fremont petroglyph site on Highway 24 before returning home to camp for relaxation and a great supper provided by Chere at our picnic table. After supper we piled into Dan and Chere's car for a trip back along Highway 24 9 miles to Observation Point, and the road to the two trails overlooking the Goosenecks. We stayed long enough to see the sunset from Sunset Point.
