09-24-2021 Torrey to Blanding Highway 95
We stopped for breakfast at the Capitol Reef Inn and Cafe, finally open this morning. We were on the road by 9:30, traveling east on Highway 24 to Hanksville and then south on Highway 95. Scary moment when big signs said Highway 95 was closed at mile 115. No clue about what to do for sure. Finally found a route alternative taking Highway 261 south to 163 which went to Bluff. Only problem is that the Moki Dugway is on Highway 261. No vehicles over 10,000 pounds allowed. Mo and I have done it before in the MoHo so we knew we could do it. Dan's rig is 36 feet and weighs 26,000 pounds. Dan was a big bus driver at one time, so if it could physically be done, we knew he could do it. the alternative to return north to I-70 and back south through Moab would entail many hours and miles. Dan decided to go for it. It was a successful descent down the infamous road.
